Fishmans Essentials

Tokyo band Fishmans found cult fame in the West, but only decades after the tragic demise of their bandleader Shinji Sato. Nevertheless, he left behind a prolific catalogue for their new fans to discover. Although initially billed a dub/ska act, they soon amassed assorted influences spanning neo-psychedelia, dream pop, space rock and lounge, weaving them into the web of Sato's ethereal, androgynous voice. From "Night Cruising", an opus filtered through ebbing sub-bass, to "Season", wherein melodic strings meet discordant noise, their trippy aesthetic remains relevant as ever.
