Indie-folk band Boy & Bear’s music might have evolved and expanded significantly throughout their four full-length albums, but at their core lie traces of rock, soul and folk of decades past. I find his vocal approach so soothing, so held back and pensive, and his guitar work was always very unique with unusual tunings, often tuned down with old strings. The playing and melody are just flawless. These tapes changed my life! One of the albums was Fresh by Sly & The Family Stone. I love this album from top to bottom, and ‘In Time’ is one of those tracks that gets under your skin. It’s soulful, funky, the energy is raw and on the edge melodically and rhythmically and the sounds are pure early 1970s gold!” Jon Hart: Here We Go Magic, “Alone But Moving” “The drum sound at the start of the song is captivating and a little unusual, and the vocal phrasing and tone is quite idiosyncratic. I dig how it’s hypnotic but continually evolving. I think it would have been cool to be a fly on the wall to see how this song was pieced together in the studio. It sounds pretty effortless, but I think some genius was involved in making it feel that way.”
