At Home With Matty Healy from The 1975: The Playlist

Matty Healy believes that his band The 1975’s upcoming album Notes on a Conditional Form, which the British pop-rock quartet completed a month before the pandemic hit, has taken on an entirely new meaning given this unprecedented crisis. “Listening to it in the context of this has been quite weird, because it just feels like it’s solidified even more,” Healy, who’s tucked away at home with The 1975 member George Daniel, tells Apple Music. “It makes even more sense.” In his interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s At Home With series, Healy says he’s been working on other people’s music, cooking and playing FIFA on his PlayStation against people online. On this exclusive playlist created by Healy himself, he’s included a mix that spans different decades of indie rock, from ’70s British post-punk (A Certain Ratio, Medium Medium) to ’80s college rock staples (The Replacements, The La’s) and ’90s lo-fi cult bands like Duster, who influenced him during his teens. “Duster are just one of my favourite bands of all time,” says Healy. “The whole record [Contemporary Movement] sounds like emo Yo La Tengo. It kinda has this faded splendour.”
