Rinken Band have rejuvenated Okinawa folk music for modern audiences, blending min'yo style and eisa dance with keyboards and tremulous, bass-heavy percussion. Formed in 1977 by Rinken Teruya, the band has crafted popular numbers like "Arigatou", a 1985 single that has a jaunty, giddy tone and crisp, spiky melody lines. Other tracks like "Orinasu Hibi", an ethereal hymn spotlighted by Tomoko Uehara's expressive, crane-like voice, strike a balance between traditional arrangements and airy synth-pop.
