About The Myrrors

Tucson, Arizona's the Myrrors play a sun-baked, mystical form of psychedelia informed by desert blues, Krautrock, free jazz, and Terry Riley-style minimalism. Following the group's home-recorded 2008 debut, Burning Circles in the Sky, they went on hiatus for a few years before returning with 2015's Arena Negra. Since then, they've toured steadily and released recordings which have increasingly focused on political themes, including 2018's Borderlands. The Myrrors formed in 2007, when the group's members were still in high school. Grant Beyschau and Nik Rayne bonded over musicians such as Neil Young and the White Stripes, and they decided to form a band. The group went through several lineup changes during their early years; on their debut recording, 2008's Burning Circles in the Sky, they were joined by bassist Claira Safi. The trio recorded the album in Rayne's living room, and released it as a limited CD-R on their own Strange Design Records. Soon afterwards, Cesar Alatorre-Mena joined the band on rhythm guitar. After the bandmembers graduated from high school in 2008, they went their separate ways, but thanks to YouTube, their music (particularly the song "Warpainting") began to develop a following. They got back together in 2013, issuing an instrumental cassette EP titled Solar Collector that year. Both of the band's recordings to that point were re-released on CD and vinyl in 2014. The Myrrors greatly expanded their sound and scope for 2015's Arena Negra, their second full-length and first for U.S. psych label Beyond Beyond Is Beyond. The group toured with additional members Cody Schwartz, Miguel Urbina, and Connor Gallaher, issuing tour CD-Rs as well as vinyl singles. Third full-length Entranced Earth appeared in 2016. The band incorporated several traditional Indian, Middle Eastern, and African instruments into their sound, and 2017's Hasta La Victoria featured even more ambitious arrangements, in addition to revolution-themed lyrics on songs like "Somos La Resistencia" and the title track. Following the limited-EP Archives, Vol. I: Lunar Halo and live recording Fuzz Club Sessions, the Myrrors released their fifth full-length, Borderlands, in 2018. ~ Paul Simpson
