About Ryoji Ikeda
Japanese audio and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda is highly praised for his intense, extremely precise work which often deals with sound and light in their purest, rawest forms. On releases such as +/- (1996), 0°C (1998), and Dataplex (2005), he creates minimalist yet highly active pieces using extreme frequencies and sine waves, often arranged in patterns which seem informed by techno, jungle, and other dance music genres. He's received more widespread recognition for his concerts, gallery exhibitions, and public installations throughout the world. For performances and releases like Op. (2002) and Music for Percussion (2017), he's applied his concepts to acoustic instruments and classical ensembles. With 2022's ultratronics, he incorporated '80s electro-industrial influences, resulting in some of his most accessible music.
