About MONO

Japanese experimental group Mono came together in 2000, choosing to forgo vocals and concentrate instead on atmospheric classical-inspired rock music. A fascination with classical arrangements, strings, and atmospheres became an integral part of the band's sound. Their releases include 2001's Under the Pipal Tree, 2004's Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky (one of two albums recorded with Steve Albini), 2006's You Are There (which included cellos on one part of the album and a string section elsewhere), and 2010's Holy Ground: NYC Live (in which the group was accompanied by the Wordless Music Orchestra, a large chamber ensemble featuring everything from harp and strings to winds and piano). ~ Marisa Brown & Thom Jurek
