Canadian electronic art pop duo Majical Cloudz began as the solo project of Devon Welsh in 2010, focusing on lo-fi synth pop experiments and danceable pop songs. In 2012, Welsh teamed with instrumentalist Matthew Otto and their sound grew to include expansive synths and understated rhythms, with Welsh's impassioned vocals and dramatic lyrics as the focal point. The duo's second album, 2015's Are You Alone?, won a Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year in 2016. ~ Tim Sendra
