In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Our very first performance was in October 1964 at a farewell concert for Letta Mbulu, who was leaving South Africa for America. We were totally unknown but the crowd in Johannesburg City Hall went mad when we unveiled our new style of music and dance What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Mahlathini & The Mahotella Queens, Thokozile Mahotella Queens, Meet the Mahotella Queens The Mahotella Queens, Sebai bai "Meet the Mahotella Queens" from 1966 introduced our music to South Africa. "Thokozile" was the album that launched us onto the world stage in 1987. "Sebai Bai" was recorded in France in 2000 after the passing of our 'groaner' Mahlathini. Tell us why you chose this song. “Gazette (Kazet)” Wherever we perform this song, people go crazy and get up and dance along with us. It has been a part of our stage show since our first tour of France, way back in 1987 What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Our appearance at Nelson Mandela's 70th Birthday Tribute is one of our favourites. We loved the reaction of the huge crowd at Wembley Stadium. We were only told afterwards that our performance was seen by 600 million people all around the world!
