About Elim Chan

Elim Chan was on track to becoming a medical doctor, when a mysterious encounter with conducting compelled her to switch gears, and a combination of precision and passion catapulted her onto the global stage. Born in 1986 in Hong Kong, Chan became the first female winner of the Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition (directing Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Op. 84 (1810), Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements (1942–45), and a beautifully crafted interpretation of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade (1888)) and an assistant post at the London Symphony Orchestra. She was appointed Chief Conductor with the Norrlandsoperan in 2017 and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra two years later. In 2020, she released Chopin Piano Concertos with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, another prodigious talent with whom she shares an instinct for uncovering the emotional core of a piece. Known for her natural brilliance and ability to inspire her peers, Chan leads rewarding collaborations with diverse orchestras such as the European Union Youth Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
