About Eddie Jefferson
Bop singer and lyricist Eddie Jefferson created a new style of expression in the late 1940s, which came to be known as vocalese. Based on his long-time hobby of singing along with horn solos, he began writing lyrics to them, inspiring countless followers. A master lyricist as well, he delivered, in his gravelly voice, jive-inflected lines with passion, power, and bop precision.
