About 39 Clocks

Little heard in their late '70s to mid '80s day, 39 Clocks brought scenesters in Hanover, Germany to the floor with a seriously damaged revision of '60s music. Consisting of Christian Henjes and Juergen Gleue, the duo terrorized listeners (sometimes with vacuums and power saws instead of guitars) with a sound both bracing and noisy but undeniably sprung from psychedelia. Creating a nervy but trippy latticework with garage guitar riffs, cheap organ drones, Lou Reed-like vocal lines, and primitive digital beats, the band was an enigmatic but riveting musical solipsism among their synthy new wave contemporaries.
