About Brenda Holloway
Soul singer and songwriter Brenda Holloway started out as an L.A.-based backup singer in the early '60s, but she signed to Motown shortly after, and her 1964 debut single, “Every Little Bit Hurts,” became a smash. She had other mid-'60s hits, but her relationship with the label was a contentious one, as they seldom released her own compositions as singles. When they finally did, her “You've Made Me So Very Happy” became not only a hit for Holloway, but a huge pop success in 1969 for Blood, Sweat & Tears. By the end of the decade, Holloway had retired from music, not to return until the '80s.
