14 Songs, 42 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

After turning the underground upside down with their initial EPs, Fugazi continued to refine and redefine the sound of post-hardcore with their first proper album (and its 3 Songs EP companion). Their supreme confidence is in full effect on the opening track, “Turnover,” a display of slow-burning swagger that climaxes with, of all things, a Beatles quote. And while anti-capitalist screeds like “Merchandise” capture them at peak ferocity, the sandblasted dub of “Shut the Door” betrays a greater willingness to venture outside the circle pit.
