Originating in the mid-20th century, this modern sound features Indian and African influences and lyrics sung in the Gulf Arabic dialect. Singers such as Kuwait's Nawal capture the passion at the heart of it with slow, gorgeous vocals (“Ma Abbi Minnek Kisir”); Emirati superstar Hussain Al Jassmi mixes in jazzy arrangements on songs like “Heloo Heloo”, which even gives a playful nod to the Pink Panther theme.
