Top Songs of 2022: Australia

Apple Music’s end-of-year charts are based on plays between 1 November 2021 and 31 October 2022. Australia’s enduring love for The Kid LAROI continued to define local listening in 2022, with his global hit “STAY”, featuring Justin Bieber, remaining a firm favourite throughout the year. Dance group PNAU delighted listeners with their remix of Elton John and Dua Lipa’s “Cold Heart”, as did Vance Joy with “Missing Piece” from his 2022 album In Our Own Sweet Time. Tones And I, 5 Seconds of Summer and Flume rounded out the top home-grown rotations, but there was plenty of love locally for what’s going on abroad. Hits from Harry Styles and Ed Sheeran were on high rotation, while Glass Animals’ 2020 track “Heat Waves” has only continued growing in popularity, well into 2022. But it’s far from the oldest track that reached new heights this year, with Kate Bush’s 1985 single “Running Up That Hill” captivating a new generation of listeners after appearing on Stranger Things. Listen and reflect here—and add the year’s biggest hits to your library.
