Tony Rice Essentials

Guitarist and singer Tony Rice is hailed as a hero of progressive bluegrass, but he has deep roots in the tradition. Growing up in Southern California as part of a bluegrass family (his father and brothers were musicians as well), Rice was right at the heart of the newgrass revolution that began with musicians like Clarence White. Over the years, Rice has worked with J.D. Crowe & The New South, The David Grisman Quintet and The Bluegrass Album Band among others, but his solo career, which started in the mid '70s, cemented his legend as a bluegrass innovator.
