Ryan Jarman has an astringent way with an electric guitar. His unvarnished lines probe and blister, threading together his needling yell with the outraged roar of brother Gary, best heard in 2011's sharp disco-indie fusion “Men's Needs”. The Cribs take the raw, independent spirit of grunge and the withering eye of punk culture, putting cutting lyrics (“Our Bovine Public”), poppy melodies (“Hey Scenesters!”) and terrace-chant choruses (“Mirror Kissers”) together in an artfully scuffed, immaculately sculpted guitar-pop racket (which occasionally features fellow guitar innovator Johnny Marr).
