Maria Chiara Fraschetta chose the name Nina Zilli at the start of her career, combining the first name of her idol Nina Simone and her mother's surname into a punchy moniker that pairs well with her exotic, exuberant music. Zilli represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012 with the title track of L'amore è femmina, an album full of passionate pop, bright guitars and husky choruses with a soulful, retro bent. Her 2017 album Modern Art arrived with sleek, futuristic energy, driven by "Mi Hai Fatto Fare Tardi", a cool dancehall hit overlaid with Zilli's exquisite vocals.
