Old-school poptimist Marshall Crenshaw splits the bespectacled difference between Buddy Holly and John Lennon. A decade later, "Better Back Off" displayed a tougher Crenshaw, with even his famously smart and concise guitar solos acquiring a sharper bite. By his tenth album, 2009's Jaggedland, Crenshaw was looking back on life's disorderly storylines with wisdom and grace in expertly crafted tracks like "Television Light".
