Gordon's tenor technique remained strong even after his celebrated ‘60s sessions were behind him. His burly sound on Monk's “Rhythm-A-Ning”, from The Jumpin' Blues, is complemented by the modernist touches of pianist Wynton Kelly, and the saxophonist's resonant, noir-ish lines in his 1978 performance of “More Than You Know” have an expressive, resonating power.
