David Otero Essentials

The warm vocals and witty lyrics of David Otero, a.k.a. El Pescao, first graced the recordings of Madrid-based power pop act El Canto del Loco, but when the band went on hiatus, Otero struck out solo. Alongside his trusty Telecaster, the singer/composer layers vintage analog synth loops and digital beats atop sturdy songcraft, while his love for all things South American (he eventually moved to Argentina) shines through in an almost Brazilian sense of timing. El Pescao has kept his sound loose and easy, especially when caught solo, cradling an acoustic guitar and crooning just above a whisper.
