About Yonathan Avishai

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. While living in Japan, my parents took me (then 4) to see the percussion ensemble Kodo. Back home I tried to imitate their drumming. Aware of my musical sensitivity, my parents got in touch with the people of Kodo who invited us to their community. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Ballaké Sissoko, Déli Duke Ellington, The Pianist Stevie Wonder, Fulfillingness' First Finale (Digipak) 1. The music, lyrics, meaning, delivery, diversity of moods and feelings. 2. I fell in love with the kora (I've been trying very often to imitate on the piano). 3. The most important artist for me. The storyteller, architect of the jazz tradition. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good)” I like the “early” trio explorations of mine. With my musical partners, we were looking for a certain fresh way to approach our collective playing and arranging. "I Got it Bad" is a particularly deep song by the Duke !!!
