A classical expert on the bansuri, Hariprasad Chaurasia's name is synonymous with this ancient bamboo flute. But Chaurasia's father, a wrestler, wanted his son to become an athlete—thankfully, he switched to playing the flute at 15, mastering the art of the woodwind instrument to the highest level. Joining All Indian Radio as a composer and performer in the ‘50s, he later scored Indian films and experimented with global music.
