Farida Khanum Essentials

Recognised as one of the all-time great female singers from Pakistan, Farida Khanum followed in the footsteps of her famous big sister, Mukhtar Begum. Under the tutelage of the renowned Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan, she mastered the poetic form at concerts and on radio during the '50s, shooting to fame in the '60s when invited to perform a public recital by Pakistan's president Ayub Khan. Khanum expresses an innate yearning with her magical vocals, which hit an artistic high with the popular ghazal "Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo".
