Chano Pozo: The Session Musicians

Chano Pozo: The Session Musicians

Conga master Chano Pozo had already made his mark in his native Cuba as a bandleader and composer before he joined many of his fellow countrymen and headed to New York in the ‘40s. But his esteemed legacy rests largely on work he helped to create in just one year, when he joined up with trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie to forge a new sound: Afro-Cuban jazz. Together they engaged in a powerful rhythmic dialogue that cemented two distinct traditions.
