Mentored by Harry of retro rock group Khalifah, it is perhaps not surprising that Projector Band evokes the music landscape of the ‘90s—specifically with Malay rock of the leleh variety. Breakout hit “Sudah Ku Tahu” perfectly epitomises the decade with bold drums, shredded guitar solos and towering vocals. But the Malaysian band is far too inventive to just record nostalgic retreads; subsequent singles like “Pasti Ada Kamu” build on soaring, playful Indopop and “Cinta Kita” even incorporates rapping. All contribute to a dynamic catalogue, but it is their epic rock ballads where they truly shine.
