Essential Albums
- The soundtrack to the Telugu rom-com Geetha Govindam finds Malayalam composer Gopi Sundar and Tamil star Sid Sriram making tunes that are in neither’s primary language. It is a study in South Indian musicians finding unity in linguistic diversity. Together they bring spacious beats to “Yenti Yenti”, and get traditional on “Vachindamma”, while the groovy “Inkem Inkem Inkem Kaavaale” is an undeniable foot-tapper. Meanwhile, actor Vijay Deverakonda sings in English and Telugu over the street procession-inspired rhythm of “What the Life”. Brilliant.
- Produced by the award-winning musician Gopi Sunder, Bangalore Days' upbeat soundtrack is fitting for a film all about family. On "Aethu Kari Raavilum", acoustic guitars blend seamlessly with backing tablas while Hachiran and Vijay Yesudas croon in a smooth, relaxed tone. Then there's the thundering percussion and triumphant chorus of Yesudas, Sachin Warrier and Divya S. Menon's "Maangalyam" and the sunny, chiming guitar riffs and pop rhythm of Siddharth Menon's "Thumbi Penne". Sunder crafts a wide variety of sounds while remaining true to the film's feel-good heart.
