About Elton Motello

Alan Ward had originally been the singer with punk hopefuls Bastard, which also included in its ranks future Damned guitarist Brian James. After the band split Ward assumed the pseudonym of Elton Motello, alternating between England and Belgium, where he had built up associations touring with Bastard. He made his debut appearance at the end of 1977 with Jet Boy, Jet Girl, first in Belgium on Pinball, followed a month later by a UK release on Lightning. The track achieved international success with the re-titled French version, Ca Plane Pour Moi, by pop punk exponent Plastic Bertrand. Success for Motellos original was much more limited, even though it was released in many different countries. A few months later, Jet Boy, Jet Girl was re-recorded to greater notoriety by Captain Sensible And The Softies. Towards the end of 1978 Motello recorded his debut album, Victim Of Time, which was released in March 1979 by Attic Records, but only in Canada. He was backed by various players including Peter (guitar), Nobby (drums) and Willie Change (bass), with the help of Jet Staxx (guitar), Tony Boast (guitar) and former Pink Fairies and Pretty Things drummer John Twink Alder. In addition to the single, the album included a remake of the Small Faces Sha La La La Lee and another 11 compositions that fluctuated between pop and punk. With the new decade came two further releases, 20th Century Fox and a second album, Pop Art.
