Banjaare

When their single “Bairan” went viral in early 2026, Banjaare (singer-composer brothers Sumit and Anuj) changed perceptions about popular Haryanvi music. Coming from an Indian regional-language music industry known for its occasionally abrasive hip-hop and pop, the separation-themed love song—which eventually climbed to the top of Apple Music’s all-genre chart for India—stood out for its poetic verses and polished production. Its success came from more than a year of hard work. The siblings, who hail from a village in Haryana, wrote the first draft of “Bairan” in September 2024, but went through 16 different versions in as many months before putting it out in November 2025. Banjaare, who cite Punjabi writer Shiv Kumar Batalvi and Hindi filmmaker Imtiaz Ali as inspirations, had released five other tracks by then—each a showcase of the softer side of the music from their state.
