About Andrew Schulz

An American comedian, actor, and podcaster (The Brilliant Idiots), Andrew Schulz is known as a standup comedian as well for TV series including Benders (2015) and There's... Johnny! (2017). After over a decade of performing standup and becoming known for kinetic, unapologetic observational humor, he released his first comedy album, 5:5:1 (5 Clubs, 5 Sets, 1 Night): A NYC Comedy Experience... in 2018. It topped the Billboard comedy chart. Andrew Schulz was raised in Manhattan's East Village, but it was while he was living in California to attend UC Santa Barbara that he got his start in comedy. Although he was a fan of standup, he didn't have any aspirations to perform until he was encouraged to go on-stage for a comedy night hosted by the restaurant where he worked. He soon returned to New York, became a regular at the Comedy Village, and eventually began making the rounds at several other of the city's comedy clubs. He made his Edinburgh Comedy Festival debut in 2008. In 2011, Schulz began appearing on the MTV2 comedy-reality show Guy Code and spin-off Guy Court, and in 2014, he teamed up with fellow MTV2 alum Charlamagne tha God to create and co-host The Brilliant Idiots podcast, which takes on current events and pop culture. While continuing the podcast, he took a lead role in the IFC comedy series Benders, which ran for eight episodes in 2015; the same year he appeared in the feature film Victor and began a recurring role on the Amazon crime series Sneaky Pete (2015-2017). He was cast on the Hulu series There's…Johnny!, about The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, in 2017. Meanwhile, after over a decade on the club circuit, in 2018, 800 Pound Gorilla Records released Schulz's debut comedy album, 5:5:1 (5 Clubs, 5 Sets, 1 Night): A NYC Comedy Experience... It reached number one on the Billboard comedy albums chart. ~ Marcy Donelson
