When I was a teenager a music teacher at school declared of me ‘he can’t sing’ - this had a huge impact on my confidence, but also on my determination to forge my own musical path and not let this negativity stop me! What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Björk, Post Leonard Cohen, New Skin for the Old Ceremony Madonna, Erotica They each express something I love in music. Experimentation, even in a commercial hit such as Post. Darkly jazzy departure from the expectation of pop hits on Erotica. An expression through words and music of so many things I feel on NEw Skin. Tell us why you chose this song. “I Should Have Moved to New York” This song expresses so many common factors in my music - sadness, regret and self-reflection. In the simplest sense a song about a specific regret, not moving to New York but it runs deeper, it’s a mourning for a life never lived. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? The release of my latest album The Greying Skies. It is my first album in a decade and reflects strongly on a difficult year. It is highly personal and deals with issues of psychological wellbeing and exploration. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I want to perform on the Jools Holland show more than anything.
