8 Songs, 43 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Jatin - Lalit's soundtrack for Karan Johar’s 1998 directorial debut, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, features a range of songs that reflect the film's feel-good, coming-of-age storyline, with lyrics from Sameer. Title track “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, a duet between Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan, melds percussive Indian instrumentation with swirling strings; the funky “Koi Mil Gaya” is something of a dance-floor-filler; while heartrending ballad “Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aayee” uses tabla and harmonium to evoke mournful desolation.
