Composer Jasleen Royal ropes in top talents like Arijit Singh, Shilpa Rao and Benny Dayal—and opens the door to a deserving troupe of undiscovered musical youngsters—for her soundtrack to Hichki, Rani Mukerji’s charming message comedy and long-awaited comeback film. Harshdeep Kaur’s Sufi-inspired delivery is just the thing album opener “Oye Hichki” needs, while Arijit Singh lends a husky note to the gently propulsive “Khol De Par”. Royal herself steps behind the mic for the waltz-timed ballad “Teri Dastaan”—but it’s a fiendishly talented quartet of Dharavi artists who really steal the show, rapping and beatboxing to “Madamji Go Easy”.
