Editors' Notes Jazz drummer and composer Tarun Balani shapes his third album from life experiences. Track titles like “Impermanence” and “Planet Hunter” hint at weighty subject matter, but there’s a delicacy to their sound that’s reminiscent of a human touch. The album bristles with feeling. “Brooklyn Bound” builds anticipation, “Samsara” plunges into solemnity and “Gatha” revels in a sense of freedom. On Dharma Balani is complemented by his quintet: pianist Sharik Hasan, trumpeter Adam O’Farrill, guitarist Olli Hirvonen and bassist Raviv Markovitz. They create an album that is as much about restraint as it is about emotion.
