Coronas guitarist Danny O'Reilly grew up in the bosom of traditional Irish folk—his mother is the venerated singer Mary Black. When he formed his own band in Dublin, back in 2003, the four-piece turned towards a more modern sound, bringing together classic Americana, millennial British indie rock and Arcade Fire-style whoa-ohs with an intense energy. The most successful of their four records to date, 2009's Tony Was an Ex-Con, won them Best Album at the 2010 Meteor Awards (Ireland's equivalent of the Brits).
