The 5th Dimension Essentials

Before they settled on the name The 5th Dimension, this mid-'60s Californian vocal group called themselves The Versatiles, an apt name for their ability to spin pop confections out of a repertoire that included R&B, soul, Broadway tunes and more. They took Hair's showstopping "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” and transformed it into an effervescent psychedelic chart-topper, made strutting R&B tracks like “California Soul” feel as airy as a cloud, and brought a sublime soft-pop feel to bouncy Laura Nyro songs like “Wedding Bell Blues” and “Stoned Soul Picnic”.
