Shuggie Otis Essentials

Shuggie Otis started out as a 12-year-old guitar sensation in his father Johnny Otis's soul revue in the mid '60s. By decade's end, he'd recorded with Al Kooper before releasing his debut album, Here Comes Shuggie Otis, at the age of 17. His third album, 1971's Freedom Flight, featured the psychedelic soul groover "Strawberry Letter 23," which The Brothers Johnson turned into a million-selling single in 1977. Rediscovered by soul and funk fans when it was reissued in 2001, 1974's one-man-band effort Inspiration Information was Otis' last solo album.
