Sarkodie is Ghana's rapper of the moment, an envoy of hiplife and GH rap, the subgenres of hip-hop with clear Ghanaian sonic fingerprints. Coming up through the underground, his battle skills attracted industry attention and in 2009 he inked a deal for his debut LP Makye. It was his third album, Sarkology, though, that settled his position at the head of the table. Featuring a global roll call of guest spots, pop culture references and lyrics dripping in pro-African rap sentiment (and a little braggadocio) it put his vision into words; “Ghana stand up, taking over the world.”
