Howard Shore Essentials

Though known mainly as a film composer, Howard Shore had his first success as a member of Lighthouse, a horn-rock band who were often called the Canadian Chicago. He then became the leader of the Saturday Night Live house band for five years, beginning with its 1975 premiere. His first film work was for David Cronenberg's The Brood, leading to long working relationships with Cronenberg, Martin Scorsese and Peter Jackson. Particularly acclaimed was Shore's work for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the last of which included the Oscar-winning “Into the West” with Annie Lennox.
