Beginning with their pulverising 2009 debut single, “Invincible”, Adelitas Way have made their mark in the rock world, in part by providing theme songs for multiple wrestling events. It’s easy to hear why they’ve occupied that niche: the Las Vegas hard rockers present encouraging lyrics and confident narrators that empower underdogs to face challenges head-on. Musically, Adelitas Way cloak these sentiments in snarling riffage indebted to furious metalcore, throttling industrial and metal-tinged rock. But the group’s commitment to crisp melodies and hooks, as heard in the keening, urgent vocals of frontman Rick DeJesus, has put them in a strong position to evolve as they have—for example, into embracing epic power ballads and straightforward pop-rock with trap beats.
