About Christian Löffler

German DJ and producer Christian Löffler combines techno and ambient electronica with acoustic elements, creating soundscapes that evoke melancholy nostalgia. • The self-taught musician and producer began releasing music in 2008 with the songs “A Hundred Lights” and “This Year”, which he posted online as mp3s. His first official EP, Heights, came out in 2009. • His first full-length album, 2012’s A Forest, was mostly sample-based. On his second album, 2016’s Mare, he recorded nearly every sound and instrument himself, often as field recordings made in his surroundings near his home on the Baltic coast of Germany. • In 2020, as part of a project to digitize old 78 rpm records, the venerable Berlin record label Deutsche Grammophon granted Löffler access to more than 120 years of archival recordings of works by iconic classical composers. That November, Löffler released Parallels: Shellac Reworks (Beethoven), comprising four Beethoven compositions that Löffler recontextualized. • Early in 2021, Löffler released Parallels: Shellac Reworks, a 10-track collection applying the same concept to works by Bach, Beethoven, Bizet, Chopin, Smetana and Wagner.
