A Minor Thought

A Minor Thought

No one does bittersweet deep house quite like Moomin. Opening his second album for Hamburg's Smallville label with the sloshing tide and the distant cries of seagulls, he makes good on that scene-setting with Rhodes loops and easy listening strings that shimmer like beach mist. "Loop, No. 1" expertly balances a wispy snippet of jazz piano, and muted horns set the contemplative mood on "123" and "Stotheh"; his Chicago instincts kick into gear with the deep, moody bass lines of "Alone" and "Chemistry". Whether dancing or chilling, keep the handkerchief close—this one's a tearjerker.
