The music of Hachalonot Hagvohim was the closest Israel ever got to its own Summer of Love soundtrack. Released in 1967, the trio’s sole, self-titled album provided a youthful, urban take on the traditional Israeli songbook. Folk-inspired harmonies and biblical references allow social satire to blossom between the lines of these love songs. Group member Arik Einstein soon found the inspiration to forge ahead on his own, becoming a pioneer in Israeli rock music.
