Herne Hill MC Clive Brookes deftly manages to be both lover and fighter, bottle-spraying extrovert and introspective thinker. Since busting out with 2014's Project Black & Red, his fleet-footed wordplay has toggled between battle-rap pugilism (“Away Games”) and guitar-twanging bashment pop (“Comfortable” with Dappy). But he perhaps hit the most fertile creative ground with 2017 Yxng Bane hook-up “Bestie”: a slinky slice of lustful afroswing that proves, despite his moniker, Yungen is an artist with a veteran's knack for an addictive, playlist-conquering banger.
