Tshala Muana Essentials

Tshala Muana was born Élisabeth Tshala Muana Muidikay in Lubumbashi, but her fans know her as the Queen of Mutuashi—named after the gyrating dance style she helped popularise. Muana's career launched in the '70s as a member of the popular band Tsheke Tsheke Love, eventually paving the way to her success as a solo star. Her distinctive style led to colourful songs like "Mbuyi" and "Bapasi", which provide joyful explosions of bright horns, tumbling percussion, creeping basslines and quick guitar riffs, all with her breezy vocals dancing on top.
