Composer Tan Dun’s music presents an intoxicating blend of traditional Chinese and Western classical instruments and styles, born of his time in Beijing and New York studying and working alongside some of the greatest names in 20th-century music. This playlist explores Tan’s extraordinary palette of sounds in a range of works from early operas to the striking Pipa Concerto and fiery Seven Desires for Guitar written for Sharon Isbin.
