A highly regarded utility infielder for both (early) Neil Young and (since 1984) Bruce Springsteen, Nils Lofgren also shines as a solo artist. As a rambunctious rocker with Grin in the early '70s, he tossed off melodic ragers ("White Lies") and soulful softies ("Like Rain") with equal insouciance. Lofgren had his share of almost-hits ("Cry Tough", "Back It Up"), but he may be known best for the sort of virtuosic soloing he displays in tracks like "Keith Don't Go (Ode to the Glimmer Twins)", delivering killer licks with exquisite nonchalance.
