From the pastoral drama of debut record Sigh No More onwards, this four-piece have deployed galloping bass drums, frenetic banjo and Marcus Mumford's plaintive, barrel-aged croon to carve out a sonic lane that sounds simultaneously timeless and progressive. And they have evolved too, questing beyond the waistcoated Americana of their early work to a sound that embraces bustling electronica, thundering new wave and even spine-tingling worldbeat.
