Matthew Sweet Essentials

Matthew Sweet's hit album Girlfriend proved there was still a place for classic-model pop songwriting during the heyday of grunge. Sweet recorded through the ‘80s both solo and with bands, including Oh-OK, which was fronted by Michael Stipe's sister Lynda. His third solo album, 1991's Girlfriend took alternative rock radio by storm. Since then he's stayed true to his ‘60s-inspired pop style and released a string of cult-classic albums, often working with members of Television and The Voidoids. He's also collaborated with Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles on a series of cover albums.
